Connecting structure and function

We are interested in how proteins sense and respond to cues in their environment. Our main tools are cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM), which enables the structure determination of proteins, and spectroscopy, which can detect and characterize ligands. We are developing strategies to integrate the data from these modalities to achieve our goals.

We focus our efforts on several scientifically and medically important molecular machines:

1. Translocation machinery

2. AAA+ ATPases

3. The cellular proteins which interact with ferritin
